One of my least favourite times is that of political elections. (Disclaimer: i'm about as educated on current political candidates as a four year old is on the quadratic formula.) One reason being is that it seems that EVERYONE's a fan of making sure that someone else is looking stupid. Now, when i was growing up as a kid in school, people who did that were considered jerks. Maybe i'm wrong, but the opposite seems to be in affect here. I'm not just talking about the politicians here either. Bloggers, news reporters, the internet and news/media in general is RIFE with "that-person-said-and-did-that-he's-so-ignorant-they-just-need-to-shut-the-><-oh-my-gosh-did-you-see-that-debate?-what-an-a**hole-that-dude-is-i-can't-believe-he's-on-the-ballot. I understand people have differing opinons. One of the great things about this nation is that when it was founded the idea was that you could say what you wanted to say and not get black-hooded before you were put in the gallows until your head got caved in by a watermelon. Those guys lived in a time when only a few people got a say in what was going on. We have the opposite. EVERYONE gets their say, and what we have missed as an entire nation is how to encourage. We are so involved with ourselves as a nation. Our politicians are a juggernaut on the television, no matter who they are, win or lose, my impression is that we learn to hate and to degrade others at no expense. Pick a side, drag and burn the other to somebody gives in. Are we so focused on being divided as a nation that we can't realise the power that we hold as a PEOPLE? I'm not talking uprising or overthrow, but the simple idea that we can live our lives in unity and change this world. We seriously have more resources, more money, and more ability as a common whole than most of the world. Did you know there are people around the world who sell their blood just to make ends meet? How about this: thousands and millions of others are kidnapped, their bodyparts removed and sold for $100,000 a pop, skin, bones, blood, hearts, kidneys, whatever you need there's a body to harvest it from. Where's the debate on how to help that? Is it our concern? Absolutely, because the U.S. is the main purchaser of said components. That's not the government's fault either; it's ours. If your upset with the way the government is running, look in the mirror. By the people, for the people. Capitol Hill is a reflection of its people at their core. Nevermind corruption, greed, lies, deception of those snakes. Everyone grows up in a home, has friends, is inspired; therefore, whatever is taking place up there is what grew out here. We reap what we sow. So far what we have to show for ourselves is insanity and bickering, a nation that can't even shake hands in honest respect anymore for the opponent before wishing them the best of luck on their journey as our leader. It is downright miserable to be a leader and have most of who you are in charge of just downright despise you. The comparison between, "I don't like the way you think, and i will bitterly oppose you all the way until you are done being in charge" and "Yeah, we don't see eye to eye but i'll do my level best to be there to give you advice and help you take care of this thing" is night and day to a leader. I honestly believe we have the whole concept of leadership backwards. We expect our leaders to be in front, pulling us all to where we are fated to go, with no choice or say whatsoever. Nay says i! I believe that we should be joined with our leaders in looking challenges in the face, even when we don't want to be there. The best way to get out of a place you don't want to be is to help fix it. Looking to one man, or one party, to solve all the issues is like being hungry and just sitting on your rear waiting for something to happen. A little gumption is necessary. We are the solution, the problem, the answer and the question. Every single one of us, from bankers, lawyers, stock brokers to t-shirt printers and baristas. Skinny jeans or carharts, whatever your preference, we are seriously the most functional accident waiting to happen. Hands, feet, eyes, teeth, or mitochondria, we all serve our purpose in this nation and need to see it through. I believe we can be a window of hope for this world, and if anything we can stop being so concerned for our problems (and they do seem to be growing) and look to help those different from us. It doesn't take being un-American. It takes being what America first stood for, and if i remember correctly, being a place others want to come to when their suckage meter has flat bottomed out and there's no where left to go. Please just learn to shake a hand sometimes and look for help in the person that is different from you.
Long-winded? Probably.
