Interest

Let me tell you something about interesting people.

Interesting are those people that you wish you could be more like, in the way that a small child always thinks that a cookie will be infinitely better than the broccoli they are currently having to deal with. There are always these "persons" who have some humour or attitude that we as an individual have not possessed nor comprehended prior to meeting these "persons" and at some point we wonder to ourselves, if only vaguely, "Why am not like that?"

Now this begs several questions pertaining to existence and how we are brought up and how experiences shape our perception, but i would also argue that looking around you for all the reasons why you are who you are and why you act they way you do has an awful lot to do with how you work before the afore mentioned come into play. God made everyone (ever) with this intricate, complex, astounding, and be you male or female, increasingly frustrating design that resembles nothing ever wrought by man. It moves and flows like water yet can be as stubborn as the biggest rock on this planet (although Jesus did make remarks about small faith moving mountains, so i may stand corrected; lead on, King Kamehameha). In every single person we have a fingerprint of a DNA layout and an intangible soul that goes with it that is either drawn towards some interests while repulsed by others. As we grow and interact, our surroundings, be they animate or inanimate, shape us more and more into who we are today as well as where we will most likely be heading in the next 10 minutes (mine involves the gym).

Going back to the interesting people- It proves that opposites attract and that we are also FASCINATED by that which we have little to know experience of. As a small child, i was invariably drawn towards tattoos and dinosaurs, as well as a strange interest in art forms i had never seen in the churches i spent most of my time in. Needless to say, this created some noncompliance in certain areas of my life such as doodling and what i wanted to get from the movie store. Nevertheless, i was (and still am to a degree) fascinated by the "outside." Like children looking out of a window on a sunny day, a room full of what was once occupying objects can become rather obsolete in lieu of that intriguing oak tree over by the well. So when we encounter people that cause the same sort of distraction, our interior wants to know what exactly it is lacking that makes outside so much better. It is not the loudest of questions, either, but can be shattering for people who may have contrived their own sort of image or tried to build their personality out of what fragile things this world provides us with. For those that have tried, attempting to be the very people we find interesting can lead to no fulfilling meal by any means nor leaves you with the quaint satisfaction of having done something right. We are all made extremely unique, and while there are certainly those with outstanding/outlandish personalities that seem to draw us like glitter does the sun, there should be no question as to your abilities as a human being. There is a need for quiet people on this globe, ones who read and fight by silent vigil or simply make something happen (like sewer workers. When was the last time you shook a sewer worker's hands?) that we allow to bypass because of mostly unintended lack of attention. So, don't feel left out if you're not the star attraction- Christ called us to serve and play the background, because like most of the ocean, there is a bigger fish and you don't want to be caught acting so tough as a guppy when a whale is right behind you. Know God, know where you are in your life and you will know contentment whether you have more money than you know what to do with or have none at all. In all things.
